Dominion Resources Receives Chairman's Stewardship Award

RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 2013 Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC) Chairman, Governor Robert Bentley of Alabama, presented the Chairman's Stewardship Award for a major company to Dominion Resources during the IOGCC Annual Meeting, November 5, 2013 in Long Beach, California.

Dominion Resources is being recognized for returning Cove Point Marsh, designated as one of Maryland's Natural Heritage areas, to its natural habitat after the 2006 Nor'easter storm.

"Companies like Dominion Resources are doing their best to protect our environment and to make a difference…and they're doing it voluntarily," Governor Bentley stated.

Dominion worked together with its community, regulators and university to restore the ecosystem and ensure long-term success.

The Chairman's Stewardship Awards represent the IOGCC's highest honor for exemplary efforts by an organization in environmental stewardship. Many organizations have gone far beyond the basic mandates of law and regulation to protect and enhance our nation's natural resources.

Nominations were accepted across the country in four different categories: Large Company, Small Company, Energy Education, and Environmental Partnership. The award-winning projects represent a few of the many positive programs initiated by domestic oil and natural gas organizations and industry.

Other winners include Apache Alaska Corporation, Small Company; Independent Oil and Gas Association of West Virginia, Energy Education; and North Dakota Petroleum Council in Environmental Partnership.

The IOGCC, representing the governors of 30 member and eight associate states, promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of the nation's oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. Established by the charter member states' governors in 1935, it is the oldest, largest and most effective interstate compact in the nation. For more information, visit www.iogcc.state.ok.us.
