BRIDGEPORT, W.Va., Oct. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Dominion Transmission Inc. today dedicated its new office building in Bridgeport, renewing its century-long commitment to the Mountaineer State.

"Dominion Transmission and its employees have been good neighbors in the Clarksburg-Harrison County community and energy business partners in West Virginia since 1898," said Paul Koonce, chief executive officer of the Energy Infrastructure Group of Dominion. "With this new, beautiful building for our present and future employees, we are ready to continue that tradition and to provide excellent service in the growing natural gas transmission and storage industry."

The four-story, 106,000-square-foot building is located on a 7.5-acre site in the White Oaks Business Park adjacent to Interstate 79. About 300 employees who worked in Clarksburg have moved into the building. Additional employees are anticipated as Dominion Transmission continues to expand its system through the addition of large new projects such as the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

"I'm grateful for Dominion's continued commitment to the ongoing development of West Virginia's natural gas industry," West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said. "Dominion's partnership and ongoing investment extends beyond just economic development and into the communities we call home through supporting new infrastructure and new workforce training programs. I'm pleased they have chosen the Mountain State as a place to lay down roots, invest and expand operations."

The company has applied for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification for the building. The LEED certification would mean the new building is recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as having seven best-in-class building strategies and practices. Among the criteria being considered for the certification are: how well the building is connected to the neighboring community and ecosystem; how efficiently it uses water and energy; how efficiently recycled and "green" building materials were used in construction; and how well employees' health and well being are addressed in the space.

"Long-term sustainability was a key in the design," said Brian Sheppard, vice president-Pipeline Operations. "Protecting the environment and providing a safe and healthy work space for our colleagues were very important to us, and we believe we have accomplished both in this state-of-the-art building."

Building amenities include a conference center, free parking, an exercise room with showers, lunch room and outdoor patio.

March Westin of Morgantown was the developer and general contractor. Thrasher Engineering of Bridgeport was the architect. Allegheny Design of Morgantown did the structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing design.
