RICHMOND, Va. — Dominion Energy Virginia is committing more than $1.5 million to support community organizations across the state implementing energy-efficiency measures and enhancing workforce development through the company’s EnergyShare program. The programs will educate communities about ways to reduce energy costs, train workers in weatherization services and assist low-income customers.

“With seasons changing and the pandemic still in full swing our customers are counting on programs like EnergyShare now more than ever,” said Ed Baine, president of Dominion Energy Virginia. “We are pleased to be able to work with local organizations to determine the unique needs of each community and provide much needed support.”

Dominion Energy looked to local organizations across the Commonwealth to help identify energy assistance needs in the community and how best to provide solutions.

The 13 projects are expected to provide more than 800 individuals with cost-saving energy-efficiency benefits.

“LEAP is thrilled that Dominion Energy selected us to partner with them in assisting low-income households in the region to reduce their energy usage and costs. Replacing aged heating and cooling systems along with adding insulation to homes will make them significantly more comfortable during the upcoming frigid winter months,” stated LEAP’s Executive Director Chris Meyer.

The grant will allow for more households in the Piedmont area to be served. By replacing equipment, sealing windows and doors, and installing insulation in attics, LEAP expects to reduce energy use by 40-50% during winter months when heating use can peak.

In Northern Virginia, Good Shepherd Housing & Family Services will replace old windows and HVAC systems in several units at Colchester Towne community. Additionally, the grant will fund training for two property maintenance technicians located onsite at the Colchester Towne community in weatherization techniques, energy auditing, upkeep, and installation. This project will directly serve 120 people who live in the 42 Good Shepherd housing units.

EnergyShare is the company’s year-round bill assistance program of last resort and is available to customers who face financial hardship, regardless of income.
