GASTONIA, N.C. (Aug. 30, 2021) – The Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation has awarded grants to five nonprofit organizations in Western North Carolina to help feed, house and care for people in need. These donations come on the heels of Dominion Energy’s support of the Red Cross to help those impacted by flooding in Haywood County.

“We are appreciative of this grant from Dominion Energy that will allow us to remove just one of the many barriers parents are navigating in today’s world,” said Jamie Wiener, Executive Director of Children and Family Resource Center. “Brain development begins even before birth and we are thankful for the opportunity to provide the babies in Henderson County with the formula and diapers needed for the healthy start that all children deserve so they can have bright future.”

Applications were open to eligible organizations in states across Dominion Energy’s footprint. North Carolina recipients include:

  • ABCCM Medical Ministry, Asheville – To continue telehealth medical visits for the uninsured.
  • Mountain Housing Opportunities Inc., Asheville – For the Emergency Home Repair program to allow the elderly to live more safely in their home and enjoy better accessibility.

“The global pandemic amplified the most basic human needs including food, shelter and medical care,” said Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation. “We are proud to support these worthy non-profits across our footprint, doing great things for their local communities. This work is more important now than ever.”
