Dominion Energy South Carolina Partners With United Way of South Carolina to Help Small Businesses

Company pledges $1 million for energy bill relief for eligible non-residential customers

CAYCE, S.C. (July 31, 2023) – Dominion Energy is partnering with the United Way Association of South Carolina to temporarily expand its EnergyShare program to provide relief for qualifying small businesses.

Through the EnergyShare for Small Business Program, the company has pledged $1 million to assist eligible small businesses, nonprofits and houses of worship in its South Carolina service area. The two-year pilot program will be funded by shareholders at $500,000 per year and will not impact customer rates.

“Dominion Energy is proud to partner with the United Way to lend a hand to small businesses in the communities we serve throughout the Palmetto State,” said Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “They play a big role in the vitality of the neighborhoods our customers call home.”

Qualified businesses may be eligible for one-time assistance up to $1,000 for their Dominion Energy electric bill. Eligibility requirements include:

  • For-profit business owned and independently operated, nonprofit with 501(c)(3) status or a house of worship.
  • Licensed to do business in Dominion Energy’s South Carolina service territory with an active business account separate from a personal account.
  • Arrears equal to or more than $500, plus current charges.
  • Electric service with Dominion Energy South Carolina.
  • Employ 50 or fewer people as of Jan. 1, 2023.
  • Considered a small general service customer as determined by Dominion Energy South Carolina on a qualifying rate.

“Small business is the lifeblood of our communities across South Carolina,” said John-Mark Bell, interim president and CEO of United Way of South Carolina. “From child care centers that allow families to go to work every day, to the small grocer, to the Main Street retailer who brings a better quality of life to each and every town, United Ways across South Carolina are proud and honored to be a part of the EnergyShare partnership.”

Applicants must submit a completed and e-signed application via the web form. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. The application will remain open until program funds are exhausted.
