Dominion Energy Will Temporarily Lower Levels of Neal Shoals Reservoir

CAYCE, S.C. (Sept. 28, 2023) – To ensure continued safety and reliability of the Neal Shoals Hydroelectric Plant, Dominion Energy will temporarily lower water levels at the Neal Shoals dam along the Broad River beginning Oct. 1 with scheduled completion by Dec. 31.

Lower water levels are required at Neal Shoals dam for crews to safely perform routine maintenance at the facility. Constructed in 1905, the 25-foot-tall dam is along the Broad River on the border of Union and Chester counties.

During this period of lower water levels, the Broad River’s main flow will pass through the dewatering gate in the Neal Shoals dam. Swift water conditions will exist in the immediate vicinity north (upstream) of the dam. Boaters should be extremely cautious about using this area.

Dominion Energy is dedicated to completing the project as quickly as possible, while ensuring minimal impact to recreational users.
