CAYCE, S.C. (Jan. 11, 2024) – Dominion Energy South Carolina will conduct the annual test of its Lake Murray Dam inundation sirens Tuesday, Jan. 16, at noon. The sirens will sound for approximately three minutes.

Testing is conducted each January. The inundation siren system includes 10 rotating sirens near the Saluda River in Richland and Lexington counties.

Should an actual emergency occur at the Lake Murray dam and its backup dam, the sirens would alert the public to tune in to local radio or television stations for information.

“The safety of our employees and the public is our top priority,” said Iris Griffin, Vice President, Power Generation for Dominion Energy South Carolina. “That includes consistently preparing for even highly unlikely events as we monitor and maintain the Lake Murray dam.”

The company also conducts a monthly, one-minute test of the Lake Murray Dam inundation sirens. These tests are a component of Dominion Energy South Carolina’s operation licensure by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
