GASTONIA, N.C. – Dominion Energy is reminding customers of programs and tools to help them manage their natural gas use and hold down costs during the colder months. Dominion Energy expanded its conservation program offerings in recent years to provide customers with more options to help them reduce their energy usage and bills.

“Natural gas use increases this time of year, and we have a number of programs available to help our customers manage their bills, including free energy efficiency upgrades to help the most vulnerable,” said Rusty Harris, Vice President and General Manager of Dominion Energy North Carolina-Gas. “We’re also here to help with payment concerns associated with higher winter bills.”

Reduce natural gas consumption by making these simple changes:

• Set the thermostat at 68 degrees or lower during colder months. Each degree above 68 will gradually increase energy costs.
• Caulk, seal and weather-strip around all seams, cracks, and openings – especially exterior doors and windows – to keep the cold air out.
• Check air filters monthly and change them when dirty. Also, check ductwork for leaks and tears. Adjust drapes and blinds according to the time of day.
• Benefit from the sun’s natural warmth. Keep curtains and blinds open during daylight hours. Close them at night to reduce the chill from cold windows.  

Customers interested in energy and bill management programs can:

• Set up budget billing. Eligible customers can avoid monthly bill fluctuations by signing up for Budget Billing. With Budget Billing, Dominion Energy estimates the customers’ bills for the next 12 months and spreads that amount into equal payments based on natural gas usage the previous year.
• Upgrade for efficiency. Dominion Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program offers free in-home energy assessments and the installation of natural gas-saving measures to income-qualifying residential customers.
• Monitor natural gas usage. The “My Energy Use” tool allows customers to see average daily natural gas usage and the impact changing temperature has on natural gas consumption. Customers can access the tool by logging into their DominionEnergy.com account and clicking on the “My Energy Use” link.  
• Be ThermWise. A discounted rate, expanded rebates and other conservation options are available at DominionEnergy.com/ThermWise.

Customers who need support with their natural gas bill can make a payment arrangement or seek bill assistance options online by signing into their Dominion Energy.com account. The company supports the Heat Care Fund, another option for those facing financial hardship. Eligible customers can apply for Heat Care funding at their local Salvation Army agency.
