CAYCE, S.C., January 13, 2020 – Dominion Energy South Carolina will conduct the annual test of its Lake Murray Dam inundation sirens on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at noon. The sirens will sound for approximately three minutes.

The testing is conducted on the second Tuesday of each January. The inundation siren system includes 10 rotating sirens at locations across both Richland and Lexington counties.

The company also conducts a monthly, one-minute test of the Lake Murray Dam inundation sirens. These tests are a component of Dominion Energy SC’s operation licensure by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

“We maintain and monitor the Lake Murray Dam on a continual basis,” said Jim Landreth, Dominion Energy South Carolina vice president of Fossil Hydro operations. “Part of our commitment to safety includes being prepared for these highly unlikely events. We want to take every precaution to ensure the safety of the public.”

Should an actual emergency occur at Lake Murray Dam and its backup dam, the sirens would alert the public to tune in to local radio or television stations for information.
