CAYCE, S.C. (Oct. 20, 2022) – October is Energy Action Month, and Dominion Energy South Carolina is reminding customers of ways to reduce their energy usage this fall and save year-round.
“Just a few small changes can impact energy savings,” said Ginger Greenway, program manager for Dominion Energy South Carolina. “Throughout the year, we work with our customers helping them find ways to conserve energy and save money through programs and tips we offer. National Energy Action month is the perfect time to remind customers of the available resources to help them take action and be more energy efficient in their everyday lives.
Start with these four simple changes to prepare for cooler temperatures ahead:
- Set the thermostat to 68° or lower during colder months. Each degree above 68 can significantly increase your heating bill.
- Install a smart thermostat that automatically lowers the temperature even further than 68° overnight or while no one is at home. Make sure the thermostat is installed properly and is compatible with your HVAC unit.
- Caulk, seal and weather-strip around all seams, cracks, and openings – especially exterior doors and windows – to protect your home from drafts. Check air filters monthly and change them when dirty. Also, check ductwork for leaks and tears.
- Schedule a Home Energy Check-Up. This free service for customers includes a consultation from a Dominion Energy South Carolina energy expert and an assessment of your home with recommendations on ways to improve its energy efficiency.
Dominion Energy South Carolina offers other programs to eligible residential electric customers to help decrease energy use:
- EnergyWise Online Savings Store is offering 50% off existing discounts on a variety of ENERGY STAR® certified products like LED bulbs, smart lighting, smart thermostats, advanced power strips and more. This limited time offer is available through Nov. 11.
- Appliance Recycling Program enables qualifying customers to receive $50 cash back and free no-contact pickup when recycling eligible full-sized refrigerators or freezers. Qualifying customers who schedule a pickup through Nov. 30 will be entered to win a Home Depot gift card valued at $250.
