RICHMOND, Va. – Ten employees and two retirees who have given countless hours of their time and talent to communities will be honored this month as Dominion's Volunteers of the Year for 2001.
Representing every aspect of the company's work force in seven states, these individuals are recognized as "Hometown Heroes," the theme for the 2001 volunteer recognition program.
The following employees will be honored at ceremonies April 9 in Akron, Ohio, and April 16 in Richmond:
Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April and local Boys & Girls Clubs are just some of the organizations in which Dominion volunteers have donated time and effort. Dominion's two-year-old "Putting our Energy to Work for the Environment" project placed 550 employees in eight states working to clean and refurbish 13 local parks in a four-day period last October.
"Dominion volunteers share their talent and time to fulfill a need -- whether they help improve a community or simply make someone else happy," said Thos. E. Capps, chairman, president and CEO. "Their spirit of humanity, enthusiasm and compassion is truly at the pulse of Dominion's successful volunteer program."
Nearly all volunteer hours are carried out on the employee's time, although company equipment and monetary donations may be used to support worthy projects.
Dominion is one of the nation's largest producers of energy, with a production capability of 2.7 trillion British thermal units of energy per day.
