Customers encouraged to use energy efficiently and safely
CAYCE, S.C. (Jan. 30, 2026) – As temperatures plunge to near-historic lows across the Palmetto State
and another round of winter precipitation approaches this weekend, Dominion Energy is prepared for
increased demand for electricity on its system. Customers are encouraged to conserve energy and to be
safe.
“As we prepare for another blast of winter weather, our fleet of diverse generation resources – including
coal and natural gas – is critical to keeping the lights and heat on in our customers’ homes and businesses,”
said Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina. “This is why having an all-of-the-above
strategy for fuel resources is so important. In fact, we have more than 45 days of coal inventory on the
ground and ready to load, and our gas peaking units are ready to kick-start as quickly as needed. Our
family of employees, including additional staffing at our power facilities, will be working hard to ensure we
meet increased demand from our customers.”
Just as Dominion Energy is preparing for additional demand on the energy grid, customers are encouraged
to take steps to conserve energy and help maintain a reliable electric system, especially from 7-9 a.m.
when demand over the next week will be at its highest.
Follow these five tips to help conserve energy and stay safe:

Adjust the thermostat to 68 degrees or lower when the temperatures drop. Each degree below
68 can conserve energy and reduce heating-related costs. Only raise the temperature on your
thermostat 1-2 degrees at a time to avoid activating auxiliary heat unnecessarily, particularly during
periods of high demand such as the early morning hours or end of the workday. This can
significantly increase the amount of energy used and have an impact on monthly bills.

Conserve energy in other areas of the home as heating systems work around-the-clock. For
example, turn off non-essential lights and appliances and avoid using major power-consuming
equipment such as electric fireplaces, dishwashers, washers and dryers during early-morning
hours. For safety and energy reasons, avoid leaving space heaters on in unoccupied rooms.

Sign up online and receive daily energy usage alerts for customers with smart meters.View daily or hourly usage and costs.

Enroll in Dominion Energy’s Reward Hours program. Residential customers enrolled in the program receive incentives for managing their electricity usage certain hours of the year. Reward Hours occur throughout the year but are typically scheduled when weather is very cold or extremely hot.

Never use a gas oven, range or outdoor barbecue to heat a home. Using them as a source of
indoor heat can cause dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
