CAYCE, S.C. (July 17, 2023) – One in every five new hires at Dominion Energy is a veteran. As part of its ongoing support of the armed forces, veterans and their families, Dominion Energy recently held a military appreciation event at its offices in Cayce, South Carolina, to honor employees who are active or former members of the United States armed services.
Brig. Gen. Jason E. Kelly, commanding general of the U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson, was the special guest speaker at the event hosted by Dominion Energy’s Veterans and DiverseAbility employee resource groups. Susan McPherson, vice president of public policy and military affairs at the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, and Keller Kissam, president of Dominion Energy South Carolina, also spoke.
“It’s companies like Dominion Energy that build a better understanding of what our veterans have to offer,” Brig. Gen. Kelly said. “A company that values the skills veterans possess from their service is more than an organization, it’s a team, and I think that’s why so many show interest in working here.”
Since Dominion Energy launched its Troops to Energy Jobs initiative in 2012, the company has hired more than 1,600 veterans. More than 3,000 veterans work for Dominion Energy, representing about 18% of the workforce.
“We will always jump at the chance to be associated with our military,” Kissam said. “We treasure the relationships we have with our veterans. The discipline and pride they have in their work is what helps us survive serving our customers 24/7.”
In 2022, G.I. Jobs ranked Dominion Energy No. 8 in the nation on its list of the top military-friendly and military spouse-friendly companies.
“It is so important that as a community we work to make sure that we don’t let talent out of our grasp, and Dominion Energy is doing just that,” McPherson said. “It’s a great feeling seeing so many faces that have served our country work in an environment where they’re appreciated.”
Dominion Energy offers a 100% salary differential for up to five years to deployed military employees, fully covering any loss in pay when they are deployed on active duty. The company provides paid time off for Guard and Reserve duty, as well as an annual $5,000 Student Veteran Scholarship for interns with military service.
