Reflections on Pride Month

To celebrate Pride month this year, Dominion Energy highlighted some of our work with the LGBTQ+ community.

Diversity and inclusion are important to our company.  They are an integral part of our core value of One Dominion Energy – our term for teamwork.  We want our employees to show up as their authentic selves so they can build a community where differences are celebrated, and perspectives are broadened.

To celebrate Pride month, Dominion Energy supported diversity initiatives with the LGBTQ+ community through philanthropic programs, partnerships, and volunteer outreach.  Through grants large and small, we invested in programs that fostered an appreciation for the diversity of our employees, and the community we serve.

Annual Lighting of Dominion Energy Building

To show in the most visible way our support for the LGBTQ+ community, 600 Canal Street was lit on the evening of June 1st in the colors of the rainbow and PRIDE flag.

Assisting Side by Side, Richmond’s Youth Center

Dominion Energy’s Power Delivery Team showed their support for Richmond’s LGBTQ+ Youth Center, Side by Side, by helping to replace their PRIDE flags that had been torn down in October.  Ted Lewis, Executive Director of Side by Side, reached out to George Marget III, Deputy General Counsel at Dominion Energy and chapter sponsor of PRIDE East, in hopes that the Electric Distribution Team would be able to assist on short notice.  A crew and bucket truck headed to the site and was able to replace the flags.  In addition, Dominion Energy provided Side by Side with a $5,000 grant.

Sponsoring Virginia’s Largest Fundraiser for Equality

Dominion Energy was a Platinum Sponsor of the annual Equality Virginia Commonwealth Dinner.  Though held virtually in 2020 due to COVID, the Commonwealth Dinner is the largest and most visible fundraising outreach program sponsored by the organization.

Feeding the Hungry in Central Virginia

From March 15-31, 2020, PRIDE EAST ambassador, Michelle Chapman, hosted a food drive at the Chesterfield Power Station for Nationz, a local organization dedicated to providing resources to the LGBTQ+ community.  In total, Michelle collected over 600 lbs of food to donate.

Strengthening Relationships Through Diverse Suppliers

To support Dominion Energy’s goal of meeting and developing relationships with qualified LGBTQ+ suppliers, we have partnered with the following advocacy organizations:

  • National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC)
  • Richmond LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce
  • Hampton Roads Business Outreach
